Driving test routes, explained

Driving test routes are the roads examiners use around each test centre. They are not published, and examiners now have more freedom to vary them, so no one can hand you the exact route you will drive.

What helps is knowing the roads your centre actually uses: the junctions, roundabouts and lane changes where most faults happen. We cover them centre by centre, and the numbers here show how far that reaches across the UK. Find yours on the map below.

How our routes work

More than a driving test routes app

A driving test routes app, or free driving test routes on a map, gives you street names or a line on a screen. We film the real roads in 4K, from the driver's seat, so you can see them before you drive them.

A name is hard to picture when you are nervous on the day. Every route is filmed on location in 4K, showing the real lanes, signs and markings you will meet, with 20 to 40 coaching tips at each point where you need to act.

Each route comes with an interactive map, so you can learn your way around the centre before you drive it. It is what people really want when they search for driving test routes on a map, built for learners.

Drove a junction or roundabout that did not quite sink in? Watch that part back in 4K as often as you like, until you know exactly what to do on the day. Study the roads themselves, not just a line on a screen.

Every route includes a GPX download for your sat-nav or phone, with guides for TomTom, Sygic, OsmAnd and Google Maps. TomTom is the same system used in the official driving test, so you can drive the route with your instructor.

No. The DVSA stopped publishing official test routes in 2010, and from 24 November 2025 examiners have more freedom over the roads they choose. So nobody can honestly give you the exact route you will be tested on. What you can do is learn the roads candidates drive most often around your test centre, which is what our footage shows.
There is no official number, because the DVSA no longer publishes a fixed set of routes. In practice each test centre has a handful of commonly used routes spread across the local roads, and examiners mix and match. We cover the roads most candidates drive around each centre in real 4K footage.
Neither. They are not a fixed, published list, but they are not random either. Examiners pick from local roads that cover a range of conditions, such as roundabouts, dual carriageways and tricky junctions, and since 24 November 2025 they have more flexibility. There are several driving test routes apps, and most give you a list of street names with turn-by-turn navigation. We take a different approach: real 4K footage of the roads around your centre, filmed from the driver's seat, plus a map and a GPX download. So you can see the roads, not just follow a line on a screen.
You can find free lists, or routes plotted on Google Maps, but those are street names or a line on a map with no real sense of what the roads look like. Our routes show you the actual lanes, signs and markings in 4K, with the junctions and roundabouts where most faults happen pointed out as you watch.
Yes. Every route comes with a GPX download you can load into your sat-nav or a maps app, so you can drive the roads yourself with your instructor and match your practice to what you have watched.
It will not give you an unfair advantage, and it is not about memorising a route. Familiarity with the roads, junctions and roundabouts around your centre reduces nerves on the day, so you can focus on driving smoothly rather than wondering what is coming next.
